PLACEMENT
During my studies, I completed a placement which was my first professional experience in a public library.
​This placement gave me the opportunity to learn the basics of the librarian's profession and to put into practice the theoretical knowledge I had already acquired during my training.
This placement also aimed to confirm my decision to change my career and to determine if I could transfer the skills I had tkanks to my professional career to another field.

I chose to complete this placement in the public library of Hannut (in the province of Liège).
This 200-square-metre library has been located in its current building since 1992.
The location is strategic, close to schools, nursing homes, the music academy and the cultural centre.​​​
​Its size allows for a room that can host exhibitions, an adult department, a children's department and a young adult departement.
​​​
You can also find a games library, a computers area, study and work spaces and a comfortable space for activities.
As part of the provincial network it offers users an access to Mabibli.be, an union catalogue wich allows them to reserve and borrow documents from other libraries of the province. ​​​

The library, thanks to its partnerships with local organisations, also offers many activities and events : seed library, creative workshops, ecological workshops, author visits, story time for children and a reading club.
​
The team of 10 members, composed of two librarian managers, librarians and animators is very organised and gave me a great opportunity to learn about how teams work in public libraries.
​
This library fully met my expectations for my placement : a dynamic place offering many activities, diverse users, a large team, and the opportunity to discover how a games library operates.

I love this job because it combines knowledge transfer, sharing and human contact: every day offers an opportunity to help, guide and connect with users.
The versatility of this profession, between document management, cultural mediation and collection management, gives me a real sense of usefulness and dynamism.
